Know the day a supplier loses organic certification — not at your next inspection

For certified organic handlers, brands and co-packers buying from many certified suppliers: your supplier list is checked against the USDA Organic Integrity Database, you get an alert when a status or certified product changes, and every check is kept as a dated record for the inspector.

Example (fictional data)

Co-packer with 64 certified suppliers. Tuesday: one supplier moves from certified to suspended in the USDA database. The alert names the supplier and the date; the record shows every earlier check of that supplier for the inspector.

How it works

Since the Strengthening Organic Enforcement (SOE) rule took effect on March 19, 2024, a certified organic handler is expected to verify the organic status of the operations it buys from. For a brand or co-packer with dozens of suppliers, that means looking each one up again and again.

The USDA Organic Integrity Database is public: anyone can look up an operation and see whether it is certified, suspended, revoked or surrendered, and which products are covered. What the database does not do is tell you when one of your own suppliers changes.

Organic Supplier Watch keeps your supplier list and checks every supplier against the database. When a status or the list of certified products changes, you get an email naming the supplier, what changed and when.

Each check is stored with its date. When the inspector asks how you verify supplier status, you open the supplier and show the history of checks instead of collecting screenshots.

Setting up takes one sitting: upload your supplier list from a spreadsheet, match each supplier to its entry in the database once, and choose who receives alerts.

The service only reads public data from the USDA database and keeps your records. It does not certify anyone and is not affiliated with USDA or any certifying agent.

Questions

Where does the status come from?

From the public USDA Organic Integrity Database.

Does it replace my certifier?

No. Your certifier certifies you; the service keeps your supplier checks in order.

Can I import my supplier list?

Yes, from a spreadsheet.

Is this for large companies?

It is built for small and mid-size handlers, brands and co-packers.

Can I use it already?

Not yet. The service is in preparation, and we are checking whether handlers need it.
